Book Review: Ask Me Anything, Lord

When God calls you to make an impact, feelings of fear, doubt, and insufficiency seem to automatically show up. As a matter of fact, they have been making appearances since the beginning of time in the lives of people like Adam and Eve, Elijah, Peter, and many others. And during those times:

• God asked Adam and Eve, “Where are you?” as a checkpoint for their relationship with Him.
• God asked Elijah, “What are you doing here?” to bring him out from the places of depression and frustration.
• Jesus asked Peter, “Do you love me?” to restore their relationship.

In Ask Me Anything, Lord, Heather C. King reminds you that God can use questions in Scripture to reveal the true motives and intents of your heart, challenge your thinking, and help you overcome. Exploring some of the encounters God had with people throughout the Bible and sharing her own experiences, King encourages you to draw closer to God, receive the fullness of His blessings, and boldly move forward.

 This soul-searching book includes personal reflection questions, group discussion topics, Scripture memory verses, suggestions for life application and prompts for journaling-a perfect resource for women’s small group study.  

Heather C. King is a Bible study teacher, women’s ministry leader, and blogger with a desire to help others apply God’s Word to the clutter, noise, and busyness of everyday life. Heather lives in Virginia with her husband and two children.

“As a long-time Christian who grew up with Sunday School flannel boards and lessons from the Bible, I also wanted to share a new perspective on these biblical accounts for those who have read them often and maybe even studied them before.  God taught me so much from this study and I wanted to share that with others” says Heather.

 My Thoughts:

There were a lot of places in the book that I could relate to. I began to take a good look within myself, especially when I am always the one doing all of the talking. I saw myself in the book as a mom, a wife and a Christ follower. Heather is an awesome writer, funny and real with her delivery. There were a few sections in the book that dealt with heart issues, meaning we may be able to hide our flaws and insecurities from everyone around us, but God sees in the deep recesses of the heart. Heather also addresses how each one of us are important and significant to God, our plans are not always His plans (God sees the whole picture, we are focused on the current situation).

I could also relate to the chapter that discussed feeling invisible. How as moms we sacrifice our lives and time for our children and our family and yet it seems as if we loose our identity.  I have felt that sometimes my identity is wrapped up in my children and I don’t know who I am anymore, sure I am a mom and a wife, but who am I really? Ask Me Anything, Lord is a great book for Women’s Bible Study Groups, small classes or groups, church groups and anyone who is not afraid to examine their heart and allow God to heal the wounds and broken places in their lives. I enjoyed reading the book and I am sure you will too. This is a really great book, very timely and it is helping me allow God to work in my life in those areas I didn’t want to deal with.

Whatever problem you are facing, there is a God who is concerned about the issues of  your heart and He wants to heal your hurts and He is so loving and forgiving and wants to establish that personal relationship with you!
