I would have to say Christmas hands down. I love this time of year, spending time with my family that I haven’t seen for ages, shopping and the food (definitely the food).
It is not every day that you have a table filled with delicious food and deserts at the same time. We have members of our family that make specialty dishes. Like my Grandmother (God rest her soul) used to make Cornbread dressing, Gumbo, Collard Greens (African Style-in her words) and many other dishes that are only prepared seasonally or during this time of year.
I miss the joy and laughter of the little children as they squeal with delight as they count and gather their abundant mountains of gifts. I enjoy watching them rip the wrapping paper off of every gift and the reaction they give when they receive the gift they asked for and for the ones they didn’t. I love driving around the decorated neighborhoods and looking at the Christmas lights, its like being a kid all over again!
We come from a religious background, so we always read a scripture, say a prayer of thanks for the year and the blessings. We always remember the real reason for celebrating the Christmas Holiday and that is Christ (He is the reason for the season). I know many people have various other beliefs and they choose to celebrate it how they want, but at the end of the day it is all about love and family and giving.
Let us not get too caught up on commercialism and let the industry dictate how much time we should spend with our family members that we haven’t seen all year. Presents come and go, they wear out and they get old, but spending time with your loved ones is a memory that you will cherish forever.
What is your favorite holiday? How do you celebrate the Holiday Season? Do you have a special tradition that you follow every year?
