I am finding my way back to myself. I am slowly returning back to the things that I used to do. Remembering and rediscovering myself is not an easy thing. Call it selfish or whatever you want, it doesn’t matter.
We often lose ourselves in the roles we have given ourselves. As a busy mother – we spend all of our time raising our children, caring for our homes, tending to our spouses and whatever other tasks we have given ourselves on a daily, weekly or monthly basis. As women we are often the last to care for ourselves and we put the needs of others before our own.

So to remedy this, I started thinking more about who I am and why am I important. Instead of sabotaging my time (by not accepting the breaks when they are given/needed), I have learned to take them often and without all the mom-guilt (you know – how we talk ourselves out of going or buying something for ourselves). Why do we do this to ourselves? Do we feel that we are not worthy or deserving?
Of course we are – so totally deserving and worthy, but in the midst of caring for everyone else we neglect ourselves, our health, mental well being, our fitness, our peace and the list goes on… When I entered my forties (Yes, hard to believe I am in my forties, Right – Right?), it was like a new awareness or awakening in my mind, body and spirit. I still feel very young at heart and youthful, but my body is feeling a lot of new aches and pains, joint pain – just to name a few.
So I started thinking about what steps I could take toward taking better care for myself – here are a few ideas I wrote down:
- Devotional or Quiet Time
- Write in a Journal
- Read your favorite novel
- Go for a walk/gym or exercise
- Treat yourself to something new
- Self-care services (massage, manicure/pedicure, hair services)

I am already actively doing many of the items on this list, but for those of you who don’t know where to begin, this is a good start. If you have any ideas or suggestions for self-care, please feel free to share and leave me a comment below.
Until next time write a list of the things that bring you joy and happiness, start small and set obtainable goals for yourself.
Be Inspired,
The Tickled Diva
