About the Book:
Nourished: A Search for Health, Happiness, and a Full Night’s Sleep
With humor, honesty and faith Becky Johnson and her daughter Rachel Randolph determine to tackle the stuff that is stressing them out, once and for all. From interviews with friends and lots of research they came up with The Ten Most Common Stressors That Mess with a Woman’s Mind: daily challenges that routinely steal her sense of peace and joy. Together Becky and Rachel cook up a plan to live a less depleted and more nourished life. Opposites in many ways mom and daughter share their successes and failures as they make peace with their imperfect bodies, create living spaces they love, get wiser in their relationships, tame jam-packed schedules, settle into God’s love, and more. In short, they stumble and journey together toward a life that better nourishes them – body, mind, soul and spirit.

My thoughts:
I honestly didn’t know what to expect when I received this book. This mother/daughter team really did an excellent job of providing practical and efficient ways of organizing your time and living a life that is fuller and more enjoyable. Nourished is a great read. It’s like spending time with a really good friend and she is giving you all the details of how to improve your life and still enjoy those mundane tasks like cleaning the house or doing laundry. After gaining access to tips on improving your life, you can have a renewed sense of purpose.
My favorite tip or idea from the book is “Stuffing the Pillow”, how fluffy is your pillow? “Think of your days like a pillow. When you don’t have enough stuffing in my pillow, it’s flat and a little sad, and I feel restless because there is nothing supporting me. But when it is too stuffed, it becomes stiff and results in exhaustion and strain.”
I love this analogy, because it reminds us to keep it all in perspective and to find that balance between everything that concerns us in our daily lives. If we take on too many tasks we feel overwhelmed and overworked. When we feel like we aren’t doing enough we laden ourselves with denial and guilt.
Do you have an established routine that keeps your work and home life balanced? What tips can you share with those who don’t have balance?
