What are you Thankful For?
We just celebrated this awesome day full of food, fun and laughter. Did you really enjoy your time with your family or were you more focused on shopping and catching deals?
Thanksgiving for me, means the year is coming to a close and after Christmas arrives, it is time to welcome the New Year. Just yesterday it was the holiday season and here we are again a new year emerges. Have I completed all that I wanted to accomplish this year, am I any further this year than the last?
When we all gathered around in a circle to say grace and bless the food, every person one by one around the room named something they were thankful for. Here is some of what was said…
I am thankful for…
- Life, Health and Strength
- For my Mom and Dad
- For my Family
- To spend time with Family
- Food
- My Children
- For Shelter and Warmth
In these moments, it just made me look inward and keep life all in perspective. So many of us are chasing things that are meaningless or may cause us great stress. It helps to remember why we are all here. Reflecting on how far God has brought us, in each and every one of our lives. Just being reminded of where we were at this same time last year emotionally, physically, spiritually, mentally, financially and on and on…
I am thankful for the little things, for the ability to breathe clean air, for the activity of my limbs, for patience, for my family. I could go on and on for days. I am thankful to God for waking me up every day, no matter how good or bad the day goes. I am grateful to be alive on this earth. So many of our loved ones are not with us this year and we miss and love them. Take time to remember those we lost, but also take time to love on the family that is still here.
A quick note on Holiday Shopping:
I am frugal like the next person and I love saving money. I just couldn’t bring myself to fight with the crowds of rude shoppers this year.
People have been inconsiderate, pushy and mean. I don’t have time for people who are not nice to others. This is just one day of the year that people are spending so much focus on, buying gifts for ungrateful people who don’t like the gifts half the time anyway.
Being kind and nice and treating people, other fellow human beings with love and respect is something that we should be doing everyday, not just during the holiday season. Treat other people kindly and take care of those who are less fortunate and in serious need. It helps to remember those who are less fortunate, not just in the holiday season, but as often as we can.
So if you braved the crowds and saved a bundle, awesome for you! Hope you were able to check off that long or short Christmas shopping list.
