Lies, Falsehoods, Fallacies and Fairy Tales
Which one are you guilty of telling?
- Little one
- Big one
- Hiding the truth
- Omission
- White lie
Let’s think about this for a moment. Why do people tell lies?
Is it to hide their shortcomings, financial issues, character flaws or is it just that a person may not want to commit to a certain type of friendship or relationship?
What do lies do?
- hurt people
- distort views
- deceives others
- causes lack of trust
- make you not trustworthy
- steals your integrity
- all parties suffer
Lies are not sweet
Lies are poison and toxic
Lies kill relationships
Falsehoods, Fallacies and Fairy Tales – Well, we are not in a storybook and this is not a bedtime story!
Falsehoods, Fallacies and Fairy Tales should not be a go to when trying to squirm out of getting caught. Take ownership even if it hurts, even if it will get you in trouble. Lies alienate all parties involved and it breaks the bond of trust between marriages. Once that trust factor is broken, the spouse or person may forgive you, but it is extremely hard to recover after you have been deceived, betrayed and lied to.
Too many people are playing games with other people’s hearts and emotions in the hopes of using people to get what they want or to grant themselves permission to continue in deceptive behavior. No one wins when there is a cheater or liar in the midst. As the old saying goes – If you lie, you will cheat and steal! Is this statement truth or what?
So, how can we fix this – (she raises hand) Oh, I know the answer – Tell The Truth!
What steps or course of action can you take to improve…
- be truthful
- find the reasons you feel like lying
- find your why
- change your behavior
- determine if is it a character issue
- be more intentional with the truth
Here are a few scriptures and biblical principles that will help anyone overcome this distasteful habit. Reflect and ponder the verses below and hopefully they will encourage a renewed mindset that seeks to speak the truth.
John 8:32 – And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
Ephesians 4:25 – Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another.
Proverbs 12:19 – The lip of truth shall be established for ever: but a lying tongue [is] but for a moment.
John 14:6 – Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
Proverbs 12:22 – Lying lips [are] abomination to the LORD: but they that deal truly [are] his delight.
Let’s talk about it. Have you overcome the habit of lying? Share with someone else who may have an issue with lying or that may benefit from this post.
