Who would have thought we would have made it to this day? Congratulations on 18 years together!
When you are newly engaged 1 year, 5 years, even 10 years seems like a long distance away. It is scary not knowing what to expect, facing the unknown and uncertainty, walking into this new life together with your new mate. It all seems surreal, just yesterday we walked down the aisle.
We have grown together and individually. We have come to know each other in very personal and intimate ways:
- total transparency
- bearing our souls to one another
- forsaking everyone else
- naked and not ashamed (spiritual, physical, mental aspect)
- we started a family together
Our love has grown to deeper levels and higher heights together. We have experienced the loss of loved ones and held each other up in prayer, in tears and in comfort, encouragement and support.
I would not have wanted to spend my life or marriage with anyone else. There were times when I had to bite my tongue and not say everything that came to my mind, but to be respectful and speak with respect and love. Not just, I’m going to set this man straight and he has to deal with it! No people, it doesn’t work like that. Communication, love and trust are vital to the success of your marriage. Also, lots of Patience!
In order to have a long-lasting love and marriage relationship, you will have to communicate and talk these things out, come to a mutual agreement or simply agree to disagree. But don’t go to bed angry, walk in love and forgiveness. Then you can always make up!!!
No marriage is perfect and we have had our share of trials and triumphs, but we put in the work and effort and loved each other in spite of our faults!
When we were courting, we both vowed that we would never say the “D” word or not even let that be an option! We both committed our hearts to God and to each other and made a conscious choice to not let anything or anyone interfere with our marriage, no matter what!
You still shower me with surprises whether they are big or small I love them all! Ha. I love my roses and cards and many gifts that you have given me throughout the years, but most of all for your unconditional love, generosity, appreciation, tenderness and kindness that you have shown me.
I love you Honey! (smooches), I pray God will continue to bless us to see and enjoy many more years. Happy Anniversary – 18 years
