As a mom we all know that raising children is sometimes a difficult task. We have all been in this space at one time or another. Do we fuss and scream, ignore their behavior wishing it would go away, do we face it head on or use alternative methods of behavior correction?
Today was a noisy day with three kids all wanting their way, sibling rivalry, sass-mouthing and disobedience (A normal day, right?). I tried to remove myself from the situation and take a much needed mommy break (yes there is such a thing, called the bathroom). This seems to be the only place I can get a few minutes of peace and quiet without interruption.
Wait for it, wait for it!
“Mommy, when are you coming out?
“Can you come out, please!”
“Can I have… can you get me…?”
“Mommy, he hit me, she started it”
Oh, the joys of mothering (enough to tear your hair out right?). Well, I did what any mom would do, I gave them Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream on organic sugar cones. It was the best 10 minutes of quiet in my day! They were extremely thankful and excited to have the delicious treat.
Then of course within the hour they resumed (their) normal level of noise, but I was able to enjoy my children and their happiness as well as the peace and quiet, even if it was for a few minutes. So today a small victory, I chose to reward their unruly behavior (I’m just kidding), it was a necessary distraction for my own sanity!
What things have you done or given to your children in order to have a few minutes of peace and quiet in your day?
