Book: River’s Song
Author: Melody Carlson
Book Synopsis: Following her mother’s funeral, and on the verge of her own midlife crisis, widow Anna Larson returns to the home of her youth to sort out her parents’ belongings, as well as her own turbulent life. Her relationship with her daughter is in shambles, and the tension between Anna and her vicious mother-in-law escalates daily.
Anna’s unique family home sits on a picturesque coastal tributary and is filled with years of memories. For the first time since childhood, Anna embraces her native heritage and river roots. My thoughts: I really loved this book, I could not put it down. I had to get to the end to find out what would happen to the character Anna. I loved the vivid detail and descriptions, they seemed surreal that I thought I was right there in the story. In the book Anna revisits the place of her past in the hopes of reconnecting with herself, her family and her daughter. In this visit at the river, she meets some very interesting people both new and old (but you’ll have to read it to find out more). I was so engrossed in the book, I didn’t want it to end. I can’t wait to see what happens next. If you haven’t read any of Melody Carlson’s books, you are in for a treat. Her books are very well written and you are immediately drawn into the story. I am sure you will enjoy reading this book like I did.
