3 of the Best Sources for Hiring Talented Tech Professionals

Three of the Best Sources for Hiring Talented Tech Professionals

As a company in 2020, your first mission should be figuring out how to make your company disruption-proof. The recent Covid-19 pandemic has shown how fragile the workforce can be, but the changes implemented due to it are, ironically enough, what will likely cause the next disruption of the workforce. In particular, technology will be a driving force of change that will affect every industry of work around the world.

Getting ahead of this change now and hiring employees who can set your company up well for the future of work should be your biggest goal. The question, though, is where can you find these talented employees? Truthfully, it all depends on who you are looking for in an employee, in terms of their skills and knowledge. Once you decide this, you’ll be able to successfully locate employees who can set your company apart from any competition.

Hire From Tech Bootcamps

If you are looking for talented individuals who need very little training, partnering with tech bootcamps to hire their graduates is a great strategy. The most well-known form of this type of education is coding bootcamps, but there are numerous tech bootcamps that have emerged in recent years.

Those who attend tech bootcamps typically have prior experience, though not always, with the field they wish to enter. This means less training time for your company and you gain an employee who knows how to do their job with little explaining. The only downside to sourcing from a bootcamp is that graduates typically have one prominent skill, rather than a range.

Should you be looking for employees who can do a number of different tasks, consult Bootcamp Ranking to see some of the top coding bootcamps. Alternatively, if you are looking for an employee capable of handling one specific task, look into career-specific bootcamps, such as data science bootcamps.

Source From Trade Schools

Moving forward, if you are looking for employees who have slightly less experience, but a wider breadth of knowledge, then consider sourcing your workers from trade schools. Unlike colleges or universities, trade school students typically take a year or so to finish their education. Most graduates chose a field to enter prior to studying, as trade school courses are career-specific.

However, popular schools such as Thinkful offer courses ranging from data science to UX design, which means there is a wider talent pool than may exist at a tech bootcamp. You may be worried about the number of people graduating from trade schools and if it is a small pool, but studies from The Atlantic have shown that trade school attendance now rivals that of traditional paths.

To that end, trade schools are a great choice to source talented tech workers if you don’t mind doing little to no training and are looking for employees with a specific, yet broad range of skills. Do not discount trade schools as an education source like so many different companies do, as it will close the door to an impressive talent pool for your company.

Continue Partnering With Colleges or Universities

At the end of the day, colleges and universities are still a very reliable source for talented workers. The only problem is that college or university graduates often require extra training and skills that are only taught via a master’s degree. With that said, providing a graduate of these institutions with an entry-level tech job that allows them to learn the ropes can help overcome this experience barrier.

There is no wrong choice when looking for talented tech workers, but be sure that you are sourcing from multiple different locations. Not doing so will only limit your talent pool and make the number of potential candidates decrease dramatically.

Conclusion

The future of work is in a state of turmoil and predicting where exactly it will go is nearly impossible. In short, the best any company can do is adapt to the changes just before they happen by closely watching modern trends. Additionally, stay in touch with what is being taught by educational institutions, as this will give you valuable insight into the direction of work. Bring talented employees onto your team to set yourself apart from the competition and increase profits in the long-term.
